50 YEARS OF SERVICE


1968

JASW was founded at the Social Welfare Training Centre under the leadership of Mrs. Una Tapper (deceased), University Hospital of the West Indies UHWI Medical Social Work Department and Karlene Boyce-Reid who is still a member today.

1970Became a member of The International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW).
1990's JASW worked with the government to develop government classifications for social workers 
2010-2012 UNICEF sponsored the research and production of a code of ethics to provide guidance and a set of common ethical standards to promote consistency in behavior across all levels of practice.
2011-2013 Support from USAID COMET Program for the development of a governance structure, rebrand and visual identity.
2012 Formally approved the Code of Ethics for Social Workers and Social Services Workers in Jamaica 
2018 Celebrated our 50th Anniversary of serving the communities of Jamaica and supporting Social Workers.
