Social Work Day

March 19, 2019

World Social Work Day was celebrated in grand style by students from the University of the West Indies, Mona, under the theme, "Promoting the importance of Human Relationships: Promoting Social Cohesion for Improved Quality and Security of Life."

The interactive event was held at the Sybil Francis Seminar Room on the grounds of the Social Work Training and Research Centre with entertainment  provided by students from the Social Work Students' Association.

Northern Caribbean University, Mandeville

World Social Work Day

March 19, 2019


In central Jamaica Social Work students at Northern Caribbean University in Mandeville heard from invited guests in the fields of Guidance Counselling, medical social work, education, leadership & administration (JASW), entrepreneurship, and youth development (Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture).

Under the theme "Overcoming Personal & Professional Barriers in the Social Work Arena", panelists shared how they deal with challenges in their respective roles.

SOCIAL WORKER MONTH

Moneague Community College

Moneague Social Work Symposium


Social Work students from Brown's Town Community College, Montego Bay Community College, Portmore Community College, Moneague College, and various agencies came together in Moneague, St. Ann, for a full day of education, motivation and inspiration at Moneague College's Social Work Symposium. 

Under the theme Social Work: Gender & Sexuality: Towards Empoewrment, Equality & Inclusion, keynote speaker Kristal Tucker-Clarke, Director of Policy & Research (Acting) at the Bureau of Gender Affairs, delivered an information-packed presentation that left participants more knowledgeable about the importance of gender and sexuality awareness within social work than they had been before.

Expo hosted by Family Court practicum students and staff

The Family Court hosted its first ever expo organized by practicum students and staff on March 28th, 2019.
Highlights included dub poetry, wall displays, and a presentation by JASW President Eva Forde.
